The Genesis Of The Club
A small group of ex-members of the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals (RCCS) got together in Kingston on the 24th of October 1979 to commemorate the Corps Birthday. "Why not do this more often?" was the consensus. Some aims were formulated on the spot - to renew old
acquaintances, maintain esprit de corps, get to meet every now and then on a social basis, maintain
liaison with the modern-day version of the Corps and perhaps in some small way assist ex-Sigs types who may not have been as lucky as the rest of us.

The first meeting of the new club was held in March 1980. A viable Constitution and Bylaws was developed and subsequently approved.
Incorporation
In the late summer of 1984 the Signallers Club (Kingston) applied to the Federal Government to become an incorporated entity. After the usual submissions, filing of documents, answering questions, etc., on 11 October 1984 we were granted our
"Letters Patent" and incorporated under the name "The Signallers Club of Canada"
On 17 October 2011 a new Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act (NFP Act) came into force. It required all federal NFP corporations to prepare new Articles and By-laws and apply for a continuance of their NFP corporate status. These documents were prepared and subsequently approved by Club members on 26 April 2014 and duly submitted to Corporations Canada where they were approved and registered. On 01 October 2014 a Certificate of Continuance as a corporation under the new NFP Act was issued to The Signallers Club of Canada Incorporated. Certificate and Articles of Continuance together form the current Constitution of the Sigs Club while By-law No. 1 governs the Club’s internal workings.
Purpose
The purpose of the Signallers Club of Canada is:
- serve as a social focus and a means of mutual assistance to club members;
- keep alive the spirit and camaraderie of military Communications;
- provide and exchange information on happenings within the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) communications family; and
- cooperate with other organizations and institutions, and support projects whose purpose and objectives are wholly or in part the same as or similar to those of The Signallers Club of Canada Inc.
Current Membership
We have grown from the original 18 who attended meeting number one to approximately 700 members. We’re a trans-Canada club and also have members in the USA, England, Ireland, Australia, and Singapore. While predominately composed of retired members we also have "serving" members and are working to attract more both regular and reserve.
Membership Requirements
There are two main requirements:
Membership in the Sigs Club is open to all personnel and their spouses who are currently serving or who have served in the CAF Communications and Electronics (C&E) Branch or who served as communicators in its predecessor (now reinstated) organizations: the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals, the Royal Canadian Navy or the Royal Canadian Air Force. The Club also welcomes members/ex-members of the Department of National Defence and Allied Forces who work or have worked in areas affiliated with communications/signal systems.
Our Club is not restricted as to "rank". We have members from Signalman/Private to Major General and all the rungs of the ladder in between!
How To Become A Member Of The Signallers Club Of Canada
If you meet the membership criteria, complete the Application Form by selecting one of the five membership options indicated, filling out the appropriate information blocks and selecting one of the two payment options offered.

What You Get For Your Membership Fee
First, your Membership Card, Name Badge, full-colour Window Decal, a cloth Club Crest for your blazer, and your initial Login ID and Password to the members’ section of our website where you can access our Membership List, Newsletters and Minutes of Executive and Members’ Meetings.
Second, our Club provides monetary and volunteer support to the C&E Museum and to projects such as the Korean Wall Project, the C&E Branch History Project 
. and DVA’s Canadian Virtual War Memorial to name a few. It maintains a Book of Remembrance of fallen members, monitors the care and upkeep of the War Memorial at the front gate of Vimy Barracks. It also donates $30.00 to the C&E Museum on behalf of a deceased Life Member. Our Club organizes and/or provides support to C&E Reunions and Celebrations (seven as of 2013) and many other C&E activities such as the 2014 Vimy Gate War Memorial Commemoration Ceremony.
Third, our Club maintains a close relationship with the leadership of the C&E Branch, CFCSE, CFJSR and other communications units both regular and reserve in order to keep abreast of events. To keep members informed and to "stay connected" with each other and the larger CAF communications family, our Club collates news from around it’s world of interest and sends out regular reports and "The Signaller" newsletter via email, our blog and website. We also have a Sigs Dispatch tab on our website that allows anyone to post information and news plus we provide members with the links to many other websites and social media accounts of related organizations and groups.
Club Meetings
Our Club holds two meetings of members each year. The Annual Meeting is normally held on a Sunday in late April and a General Meeting is held on a Sunday in late October around the anniversary of the founding of the RCCS and the annual C&E Branch Week. The Executive Committee meets at least twice a year preceding the members’ meetings. See Club Meetings for exact dates, times and location of these meetings.
Club Events
The Signallers Club of Canada Inc normally holds three major functions a year in Kingston that are self-supporting and any funds that they may generate are turned over to the Club Treasurer. Members at any great distance are certainly not expected to attend the functions, but if you can make it please be assured that you will be made most welcome. Currently we hold a BBQ in the Summer, a Corps/C&E Branch Birthday Dinner in the Fall and a Christmas Bingo/Dance. Additionally, on the last Thursday of each month many Kingston and area members get together at a local venue for lunch. For exact dates and times of these events please see Upcoming Events.
Club Projects
A club without objectives (projects) will never survive! To this end the Sigs Club Executive reviews all requests for support and brings them before the members’ meetings if they are felt to be worthy and in support of the Club’s purpose. In addition, the Executive will review any other request for support that is in support of any organization that is connected to communicators, both past and present.
